Another Winner for Nothing To Lose 14 May 2012 Nothing To Lose is again the talk among racing circles with another first start winner at Ipswich last Friday. Without any previous trial form, I’m Busted (Nothing To Lose ex Myban Girl NZ) started as a five dollar chance from barrier five in the Royal Mail Hotel Maiden over 1100 metres. He raced wide for most of the journey although when asked by jockey Daniel Griffin he showed good acceleration to claim victory. I’m Busted is owned by the Pitt family who also race several other of Nothing To Lose’s progeny, most notably the very smart galloper, Venture On. Like Venture On, this gelding is trained by Brain Smith who is having good success with the six Nothing to Lose progeny that he has in his stable. I’m Busted’s win comes 4 days after Epic Terra’s dominate 5.8 length win at Murwillumbah last Monday. Both Epic Terra and Venture On have accepted for a 3YO QTIS Handicap over 1400m at the Sunshine Coast on Wednesday which will be a great battle. Nothing To Lose is consistently getting winners and placegetters in the provincial and metropolitan areas from only 22 individual runners. He has demonstrated that he is capable of producing a 2YO or 3YO winner from 1000m to 2150m. Queensland’s Willowbend Stud stands Nothing To Lose who was an exceptional American racehorse. Only racing on turf, he won the Group 1 Shadwell Turf Mile by 4.5 lengths and also won several Group 2 and Group 3 races. He defeated horses of the highest calibre, including Honor In War, now a resident stallion in Australia, who in turn defeated Takeover Target in the Group 2 Villiers Stakes. Nothing To Lose’s record stands at 15 starts for 6 wins, 3 seconds and 1 third winning $1.1m in prizemoney. Nothing To Lose Showing Versatility 8 May 2012 Nothing To Lose has been showing his versatility by consistently getting winners and placegetters from 1200m to 2150m. Over the last 10 days Nothing To Lose has had 6 to race from his current 2 and 3 year old crops in Brisbane and the provincial areas (as well as internationally) where he has recorded 1 winner, 1 second placegetter and 3 third placegetters. Epic Terra (3YO gelding) was his most recent horse to race and posted a 5.8 length win at Murwillumbah over 1200m on Labour Day. A day earlier Itchintowin (2YO filly) was narrowly defeated in a 2YO QTIS race over 1200m at the Sunshine Coast and on Saturday, Collector (3Y0 gelding) ran a courageous race over 2150m at Ipswich to finish a gallant third. A week prior, Everything To Gain (3YO gelding) also finished third in a 3YO QTIS race over 1200m at Eagle Farm while Senora Nenita finished third over 1400m in Manilla. There are some exciting times ahead for some of these young horses with both Collector and Itchintowin nominated for the Group 1 Queensland Derby and the Group 1 TJ Smith respectively. Venture On is another very smart galloper by Nothing To Lose who is in the Brian Smith stable and is being targeted at the Brisbane Winter Carnival where he has been nominated for the Group 2 Queensland Guineas. One interesting fact that has been discovered about Nothing To Lose (pictured) is that he is bred on a similar cross to Coolmore Stud’s new stallion, Lookin At Lucky. The breeding is similar in the fact that Nothing To Lose is by Sky Classic who is out of No Class and Lookin At Lucky is by Smart Strike who is out of a daughter of No Class. Smart Strike is also the sire of Curlin and English Channel to name a few. In addition to this, Nothing To Lose is out of a Clever Trick mare and Lookin At Lucky’s second dam is by Clever Trick. Nothing To Lose and Lookin At Lucky are both Group 1 winners with Lookin At Lucky standing at almost 3 times that of Nothing To Lose. Lookin At Lucky was the first colt to be crowned champion at 2 and 3 in America in 31 years – joining exceptional sires Secretariat, Seattle Slew and Affirmed. He was also a triple Group 1 winner at 2. Nothing To Lose has had a very successful season at stud last year, serving 96 mares and being the 4th most popular stallion in Queensland. To date, he has still only had a total of 20 runners to the track but has already had Silver City, a 2YO stakeswinner in New Zealand. September 2011 Winners Flow for Nothing To Lose Within the space of 24 hours Nothing To Lose has had two winners from as many runners. His recent winner, Venture On, took out a 3YO Handicap over 1200 at the Sunshine Coast today (1/09/11). This was only Venture On’s second race start and he has now recorded wins on both occasions. The Brian Smith trained 3YO won in emphatic style and looks set to have a very bright future as well as the chance of contesting some blacktype races over the Winter Carnival. As a result of this win, Nothing To Lose will now move into the top 10 second season sires list. He is definitely now challenging many of the other stallions and in particular Queensland based stallions, who have had far more runners than him and also stand at higher service fees. The only other Queensland-based stallion who is marginally in front of him at this stage is Red Dazzler who has had 17 to race for 4 winners, where as Nothing To Lose has had 7 to race for 5 winners and currently boasts an overall winners to runners ratio of 71%. Nothing To Lose was an American Group 1 winning stallion. His racetrack ability speaks for itself where he had higher a Timeform Rating than Australian horse’s Starcraft, Desert War, Elvstorem, Mummify, Fields of Omagh and Regal Roller. August 2011 4 Winners from only 7 Starters for Nothing To Lose Nothing To Lose has now madeit 4 winners from only 7 starters with his recent winner being the Brian Smithtrained, Venture On.
Venture On showed a magnificent turn of foot after being midfieldon the turn to finish in front by 1.5 lengths in the Sunshine Coast QTIS 3YOMaiden over 1200 metres on 20th August 2011. This was an exceptionalwin for a first starter and now takes Nothing To Lose’s winners to runnersratio to 57%. There have been some other extremely positive results forNothing To Lose this month. The Matthew Dunn trained Epic Terra ran a veryclose second in a 3YO Maiden at Doomben over 1030 metres on 10thAugust 2011 and prior to that ran second at his first start on the Gold Coastover 900 metres. Flying the flag for Nothing To Lose overseas, both SenoritaNenita and Yes Commander have recently run a second and a third respectively inthe Philippines, while Mishani Izmir recently won a trial convincingly at theSunshine Coast. Off the back of these results Nothing To Lose’s stud career isshaping to be tremendously positive and has caused many astute breeders andbuyers to prick their ears.
