Clang continues to produce at Group 1 level
Saturday’s historic Stradbroke Handicap win by Black Piranha highlights evergreen stallion Clang as a prolific producer of top line performers with longevity.
Now a six year-old, Black Piranha was having his forty sixth race start on Saturday for Rosehill trainer Con Karakatsanis.
As was the case in 2009, Black Piranha utilised the Doomben 10,000 as his Stradbroke lead in with happy results.
Black Piranha equals other back to back Stradbroke winners Rough Habit (1992 & 1991), Lucky Ring (1950 & 1949), Petrol Lager (1935 & 1934) and Highland (1926 & 1925).
Now the winner of eight races, Black Piranha has earned connections more than $2.5m in prizemoney.
Like his progeny on the track, Clang too is displaying great longevity in the breeding barn.
Clang covered 91 mares in 2009, his largest book since 2005 when he served 105 mares. At the height of his popularity, Clang covered as many as 199 mares.
Clang continues to turn out winners throughout Australasia, with some 66 individual winners this season including other stakes winners Mr Clangtastic and Don’t Say Clang, together with first time stakes placed Tasmanian mare Roses For Claire.
Clang stands the 2010 season at Willowbend Stud at the value for money fee of $5,500 inc GST.

Adnocon gets more black type for Clang
Vastly improved four year-old Adnocon has become the tenth stakes winner for Clang following his Listed success in the Eye Liner Stakes (1350m) at Ipswich.
Prepared by master trainer Gerald Ryan, Adnocon was purchased from the Magic Millions ring for just $18,000.
Now the winner of 7 races, Adnocon has collected more than $312,000 in prizemoney for connections, who include Brisbane race caller David Fowler.
No stranger to the Clang progeny, Ryan also prepared his dual Group 1 wining son Clangalang to land the historic AJC Derby/Epsom Handicap double.
Ryan is predicting a bright future for Adnocon, who has been a progressive type over the past 12 months, including a third in the Magic Millions Stayers Cup (1800m) in January.
Adnocon is out of the Danehill mare Gwenn. This family includes former top New Zealand sire Star Way, who is out of Adnocon’s third dam New Way.
A yearling full brother to Adnocon was passed in for $100,000 at this years QTIS 600 sale at the Gold Coast.
Gwenn returns to Clang this Spring, who stands at Willowbend Stud, Beaudesert for $5,500 inc GST.
